Welcome to our July newsletter. This month was a great one, especially since the weather was pleasant. We are half way in the summer and it rings the beginning of some important events like the well known tennis Rodgers cup. We expect the rest of the summer to be hot and sunny and the activities in Montreal to be memorable.
We would also like to mention that GEOS Montreal is expanding, as it has recently made the acquisition of a new floor in the building.
Yuly Gonzalez, who taught at our school for a few weeks is our New Academic Coordinator. Before joining the GEOS Montreal language academy’ family, she had already taught as a full time English teacher in her Colombian home town, Bogota. On her free time, Yuly likes to dance salsa, learn languages and showcase her vocal talent in karaoke. Welcome on board Yuly!
GEOS Montreal as several events which have occurred this month. Yuly Gonzalez is our new academic coordinator and we have also welcomed 3 new teachers this month.
A new intern, Charles Murat, has joined the administration. He helps the staff with some marketing tasks and with students’ activities.
Charles is introducing himself below:
“Hi, my name is Charles Murat and I'm an intern at GEOS Montreal. I was born in France and moved to Canada when I was 10 years old. While I always say that I'm half Canadian, half French, the truth is that my roots are French but my heart belongs in Quebec.
I must also say that I am very glad to have been given the opportunity to work for GEOS, in Montreal, where I can exercise the expertise that I've accumulated as a HEC Montreal university student.
I understand that some GEOS Montreal's students would eventually like to continue their studies in Montreal. Therefore, as I am well aware of university standards, just let me know if you have any questions, concerns or if you simply want to share your thoughts on the university educational system in Montreal.
While one of my main tasks is to help the staff with some marketing projects, I also take a lot of pleasure in helping them with students’ activities. My main characteristics as an individual are that I'm always intrigued by things, I rarely say no to an invitation, and I'm willing to try every single sport there is. I tend to believe that learning a language in a foreign country (I’ve been to a similar language school in the past) takes a great deal of courage and dedication. Nevertheless, as it did for me, this experience will definitely help you as a student and more importantly as an individual.
I welcome you in the GEOS Montreal family, and if you have not applied yet, I invite you to do so in order to experience this journey with me.”
» Gilda Isabel Banaza Lizarraga, Mexico. 18 semaines, Programme intensif de Français.

The “International des feux de montreal” is one of the greatest events of Montreal’s summer. About 150 000 fireworks fans climb on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge for each and every show. The first one took place in 1985 at La Ronde (the famous attraction park of Quebec) and the event has enjoyed even greater popularity over the past years.
Our students participated in exciting activities in July. The first Friday’s activity was one for the hiking lovers, as the students climbed the Mount Royal and saw the famous Beaver Lake as well as the beautiful city of Montreal from the top of the mount. The second weekend, they went to Schwartz’s restaurant and tasted one of the greatest smoked meet sandwich in the world. More than 25 students went to this activity and did not come home disappointed.
The following Friday was an experience that many will remember for years to come, as they went ice skating at the Atrium. While many students were scared of stepping on the ice at first, everybody took their courage in both hand and did a very impressive demonstration of one of Canadians’ favourite activity. The fourth activity was a very nice afternoon to the botanical gardens where students were able to meet the multicultural side of Montreal through its famous garden. From the cactus of the desert to the wonderful Japanese garden and the beautiful flowers of South-America, the beauty of this garden astonished many students. The last weekend of August, 20 of our students enjoyed kayaking, the sun and the cold water at canal Lachine. In order to be informed on our activities, you can always check our calendars on our website http://www.geosmontreal.com/activities.
