January often feels like a claustrophobic slowdown of inactivity, but don't be fooled by the temperature dip. There was plenty to do this month such as the theatre, the weekend after weekend Igloo Fest and as for the shop-a-holics there was plenty of deals!!

Please find below an introduction of our new Activity Coordinator:
Hi everybody,
My name is Atena, I originally come from the Italian part of Switzerland. I'm studying Tourism Management at the State Tourism and Hotel Management School in Bellinzona, Ticino. I came to Montreal to do a six-month internship in order to achieve my Diploma.
I chose Montreal not only because I had the possibility to improve French and English at the same time, but also for the multiculturalism of this city.
I would like to thank all of the GEOS staff for giving me the opportunity to join their team, I think that this will be a rewarding as well as enriching working experience that will help me practice what I've learned so far at school and develop my knowledge.
I will be working at GEOS as the activity coordinator, so I hope we are going to spend some time together having fun and enjoying the city of Montreal. If you have any questions regarding activities or events I would be glad to answer you!

Hi everyone, My name is Myriam and I'm from Paris, in France (for sure)
Well it's quite hard to put into words an experience you cannot put into words.
I guess the first question which will come up in your head is why a French girl chose Montreal to improve her English and not a "pure English city"! Here we are!
I cannot deny that the main reason was due to my fear of being lost in a country where I couldn't even order something to eat. Besides, coming to Montreal was a real choice that I don't regret at all!
I was pretty positive, but I couldn't imagine that it'll be that amazing. I felt in love with the kindness of Montreal inhabitants, the dynamic of the city and it stands to reason that the multiculturalism is impressive. I mean there is no way to get bored, either during the summer or in the winter, there are lots of activities that you have the opportunity to do.
Now you arrive alone, your fears of being lost and getting bored are at their peak, you chose the right school to avoid all these things. Actually Geos is not only a Language Academy, it's more than that. This school will help you from your arrival to your departure to make this unique experience unforgettable.
I should be able to share what it brings into my life, but I'm unable to count all the new friends I have from all over the world, I'm unable to name all the places I've discovered and how many activities I've done. Take it from me, it has also helped me building my personality and it goes without saying that my English improved spectacularly. So I can merely recommend that you come to live this unique experience.
I told you at the beginning that I was scared about being lost in an English city and after 3 months at Geos, it has become as a walk in a park. I didn't say that it'd be easy but I just promise that it would be worth it.
Challenges are what make life interesting but overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.
Don't take my word for granted, just replace your fear of the unknown with curiosity.
More than thank Geos I would like to congratulate them for sharing with me the best thing that ever happened to me.
It now your turn to come and leave your testimonial… If you get a chance, TAKE IT!

In January, despite the cold weather there is a great deal of activities and festivals going on.

We started with a Middle Eastern oriented week to discover this fascinating culture from their food to their music without forgetting their delicious and special Arabic Tea.

On the following week, we went back to the Montreal culture for a Snowball fight at Lafontaine Park. Our students connected with their inner child for about 1 hour and we had a lot of fun. The winning team enjoyed a free breakfast the following morning.
Finally to complete our northern experience, we enjoyed the true Canadian tradition: ice skating. A one hour outdoor ice skating at Mont Royal Park which ended with a cup of steaming hot chocolate.

To end our discovering month this Friday we are going out to taste Japanese food. Hoping that some Japanese students will join us to tell us about some of the popular dishes and Japanese table manners.
What is happening in Montreal in February?
Come out and play at Montreal's pre-eminent snow fest, the Fête des Neiges at Parc Jean-Drapeau or bank on the High Lights Festival's wide assortment of live shows, culinary events and outdoor freebies. Valentine's Day is also on its way and the month closes shop with a sleepless bang, courtesy of Nuit Blanche thousands of electronic music fans.
