Greetings from GEOS Montreal!! Greetings from GEOS Montreal. After a traditionally slow period over the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the school is back to being a busy, active place with students from around the world brightening our halls and classrooms. We have had a very warm January so far, with temperatures generally hovering around 0, and the snow from earlier largely melting. Of course winter continues and we look forward to lots of fun activities this month and next month, including outdoor ice skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and tobogganing. Montrealers enjoy all of their seasons by getting outside and taking advantage of every opportunity for fun. |

|
We are very proud of our Nationality mix for this month. Currently we have 27 Nationalities represented in the school among our 111 students Take a look where our students are coming from: |

NATIONALITY REPORT JANUARY 2008 |

For me, it has been a unique opportunity to meet new people, but more than this, to feel the atmosphere and the cultural diversity. I am staying with a host family and it has been a pleasure for me to be in touch with a Canadian family.
Every day, it has been a new adventure. I and my friends enjoy walking around the city to “discover” monuments, museums, art galleries, and so on. We have coffee at the cafeteria to try the typical food from Canada. We are really having a good time here and for sure we will have very good things to tell our families in Brazil. For sure we will miss Canada a lot.

TEACHER OF THE MONTH |
|
We have sadly lost the services of our beloved Caterina Lipardi, who has left us to pursue her dreams in public relations. However, we are most pleased to have Daniel Moscovitch on board, and we look forward to a fun-filled winter, which will soon melt into spring, which will then bloom into summer.
Again, we love to hear from all of our students, current and former, about their experiences in Montreal and at the school. Don't be shy. |

Usually we wake up at 8 am, if you are staying at a home stay it is comfortable because they gave you a good meal for breakfast. If not, your wake up and make whatever you want for breakfast. Depending on each place, you must get out of the house 1 hour to 40 minutes before 9:30am to take the metro or the bus to get early to the school. As soon as you get to the school, you can check your mail on the computers at the school and write some news to your relatives. Each class you learn a lot with excellent students and great classmates, what make classes’ funny and worth for all.

Latest news…
Sadly, we have to announce that Caterina Lipardi is leaving GEOS Montreal, she is taking a new direction on her life. We wish her the best!.
Our annual GEOS Montreal Holiday Dinner took place on December 10th. Staff members, teachers, and their families, joined with students for a succulent meal at “Le Caprice”, a restaurant on beautiful Prince-Arthur Street. The dinner was a complete success, with close to 50 attendees! It truly was a chance for students and GEOS Montreal Staff to learn more about each other! We thank all the students who participated in this great event!
Just before Christmas, two very special events happened at GEOS Montreal. The first was a Christmas party in the school’s student lounge. The party included drinks and snacks for the students, as well as games with prizes.
The other was a Secret Santa game, involving everyone at GEOS Montreal! Students, staff members, and teachers participated in this game where everyone got to secretly buy a gift to someone else in the school and place it under the GEOS Christmas Tree. Ian Orti, one of our English Teachers, entertainingly distributed the gifts for the whole school.
We are glad everyone participated in the exchange and thank Ian for his great sense of humour! |

It’s 2008! With the start of the New Year and the beginning of the frosty season in Montreal, GEOS is busy planning a variety of winter activities for all of you! January so far was a big hit. On the 3rd, GEOS Montreal’s soccer team reunited once again but this time it was on….snow! We got to see how fast our soccer players could run and score in the winter season!
On January 10th, GEOS students hit the outdoor rinks for some skating on ice. In mid-January, our students got to complete their northern experience by going on a snowshoe hike on Mount Royal on the 17th.
What is winter like without a little sliding? GEOS Montreal students would not have missed a great opportunity for some great fun, so tobogganing is scheduled for the 24th.
Finally, to close this winter fun month with something extra special, GEOS students will get to go cross-country skiing on January 31st.
So these are the activities for this frosty month. We hope you join the fun! |
