ACTIVE LISTENING CLASS (PM)
During the afternoon session, students will cover a variety of topics while practicing French conversation management, North American conversational styles, and pronunciation. Students learn commonly-used idioms and slang in a communicative way. Teachers also use various activities to practice these new idioms including listening tasks, role play, and discussion.
Level 1
1. Speak with other French speakers in common everyday topics like family, weather, shopping, travel, and hobbies.
2. Have basic tools to help you start and follow a basic conversation with native speakers without being afraid of making mistakes.
3. Identify basic pronunciation features in French and replicate native-like pronunciation of words and phrases.
4. Learn and appreciate different ways people see the world.
5. Develop some basic reading and writing skills necessary to function well in an French-speaking country
6. Understand your learning style and be able to check your own progress.
Level 2:
1. Express your feelings and ideas with growing confidence with native speakers.
2. Follow with confidence, a conversation between two or more native French speakers and participate in such a conversation.
3. Learn and use more words and phrases related to current issues and feelings.
4. Understand some cultural differences between your country and North America.
Level 3:
1. Refine your conversational skills when talking about common daily activities.
2. Build confidence when discussing more challenging topics with other French speakers.
3. Build more vocabulary about different daily topics so that you can express yourself better.
4. Use appropriate body language when you are with native speakers.
5. Interact with real reading and writing materials, and short TV news reports.
6. Develop some academic learning skills needed to continue to higher-level learning.
7. Understand and value different cultures.
Level 4:
1. Develop appropriate listening skills, so that you can comprehend even the basic meaning of complex conversations.
2. Refine your conversational skills when talking about common daily activities.
3. Build confidence when discussing more challenging topics with other French speakers.
4. Build more vocabulary about different topics so that you can express yourself better.
5. Understand and value different cultures.
6. Interact with real reading and writing materials, and short TV news reports.
7. Develop some academic learning skills needed to continue to higher-level learning.
Level 5 & 6:
1. Develop appropriate advanced level listening comprehension skills, so that you can understand conversations of controversial and complex topics.
2. Build confidence when discussing complex and academic topics with other French speakers.
3. Build more vocabulary about specialized topics so that you can express yourself better.
4. Understand and value different cultures; and use this knowledge when interacting with other speakers.
5. Comprehend and express complex feelings and points of view on a topic.
6. Interact comfortably with real reading and writing materials, and short TV news reports.
